Child Care Programs at Miramar Marine Base

Children, Youth and Teen Programs: Offers family care referrals (on base home daycares), School Age Care for after school programs, and CDC (Child Development Center) which takes children six weeks thru six years.

Hourly Care: Available on a drop in basis.

Before and After School Program: Available for children enrolled in school grades K-6.  Homework help, crafts, games, sports, music and dance, library activities, movie theater, science and computer. Enrichment classes vary and include tae kwon do, tap, ballet and cheer. Optional transportation is available before and after school to local schools. The program fee is based on family income.

Boys and Girls Club/Teen Center: 13-18 years old. They are affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club of America, which allows them to participate in their programs and activities. The Teen Center has state-of-the-art computers to help with homework or just for enjoyment. There are pool and foosball tables, video games, contests, Xbox gaming, DVD and big-screen TV and more. The Center offers opportunities to satisfy community service and volunteer hour requirements. In addition, they offer:

Shuttle service to and from Wangenheim Middle School, Marshall Middle School and Mira Mesa High School for a cost of $25 per month. Field trips to entertainment parks and plays. Community service projects, fundraisers and discussions. Homework help and tutoring.  Boys & Girls Club programs: Smart Girls, Passport to Manhood, Keystone Club.

Part Day Preschool Program: For children ages 3-5 and potty-trained. M-W-F: 8:30am-12:30pm. T-TH: 9:00am-noon. Program fee based on family income.

First Five California: Focuses on the first five years of a child’s life. Offers free parenting classes, education, services and more. Check out their website or call for more information.

Exceptional Family Member Program: Information and referrals. The Respite Care program offers 40 free hours a month for childcare.

Youth Sports

On Base Sports:

Oct-Jan includes basketball & cheer.  Jan-Feb is soccer. Mar-May is flag football and cheer.  May-July is Baseball, T-ball, softball and volleyball. Aug-Oct is soccer. Other events include golf camps, tennis, and bowling. Teen sports include Tae-Kwon-Do and Dance. You will need to check the calendar located at the bottom of the youth sports page for more information.

Swimming Lessons: Group and private lessons available. Classes begin in June and run throughout the summer until mid-August.

Martial Arts: A martial arts program is offered through youth sports. If this doesn’t accommodate your needs, here are some other facilities in the area: Poway Kenpo KaratePoway Martial Arts School, and Manna’s Martial Arts (has after school program).

Gymnastics/Cheer: There are a couple of options for gymnastics: Rock-n-Tumble offering gymnastics including camps and birthday parties. Poway Gymnastics offering birthday fun as well as gymnastics.

Poway Parks & Recreation: Offers a few programs the base does not:  rugby and lacrosse. They also have several leagues in baseball, soccer as well as summer camps. Also contains links for skate parks, recreation centers, swim centers.
